Biography

Prof. Diptiman Banerji is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the Indian Institute of Management Raipur, with a strong research focus on consumer behavior, social psychology in consumption, online consumer decision-making, and sustainable consumption . He earned his PhD from IIM Calcutta, where his doctoral research examined how friendships among consumers shape perceived value from consumption, a theme that continues to anchor his work on social and psychological processes in markets .

Prof. Banerji brings extensive experience in doctoral supervision, having successfully guided five PhD scholars to completion across diverse yet theoretically connected domains of consumer behavior, including socially responsible consumption, online repurchase, brand communities, star ratings, and surprise promotions . His supervision philosophy combines strong theoretical grounding, experimental and qualitative methods, and rigorous journal-oriented research design, preparing scholars for high-quality international publication.

His own research appears in leading journals such as the Journal of Macromarketing, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Strategic Marketing, and International Journal of Tourism Research among others, reflecting a sustained contribution to understanding how consumers form values, emotions, moral judgments, and identities in contemporary marketplaces . He also serves as a reviewer for top journals including Psychology and Marketing, International Journal of Management Reviews, Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Journal of Macromarketing, Journal of Business Research, and AMS Review, further strengthening his engagement with cutting-edge consumer research .
