Student Body Description
The Finance Club of IIM Kashipur is a student-driven initiative for fostering a culture of Finance. It was established to enhance the financial knowledge of students through various events, activities, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Over the years, the club has adapted to the changing requirements and skill sets of incoming students and has inculcated them within its scope to help establish a strong foundation of financial knowledge outside the classroom.
Pragati - IIM Kashipur’s student-run Investment Fund
In 2019, The Finance Club launched Pragati, IIM Kashipur's student-run investment fund. Pragati is operated by the club members as a professional investment fund, with the help of the guidance of faculty in the finance area. The fund's main objective is to provide students with a real-life experience of managing funds through applying academic theories to work. Pragati manages money entrusted by the students and alumni of IIM Kashipur, allotting them units of the fund. The Finance Club holds knowledge-sharing sessions to share its investment strategies and publishes monthly factsheets highlighting the fund's performance. The Finance Club will always follow its goal to enhance the financial knowledge of students and will continue to utilize its fund as an educational tool to support and enhance the knowledge of its investors.
Aestimatus
Aestimatus is the annual flagship case study competition of TFC and is held as part of Agnitraya. The competition required participants to use their analytical skills, financial acumen, and business knowledge, in three consecutive rounds. The first round is a quiz where the contestants are judged based on their knowledge of the financial domain and their reasoning skills. The second round is a case study competition where the shortlisted teams have to submit the analysis and outcomes from a given case study. The selected teams from the results of the second round then present their analysis to our esteemed judges.
Equity Research Challenge
The Finance Club organizes the biggest, one of its kind research-based competition, Equity Research Challenge (ERC), which is a remarkable opportunity for students pan India to showcase their financial acumen. It is a research-based competition that entails analyzing a group of companies in a particular sector. The goal of this challenge is to put contestants' financial acumen, analytical skills, and business knowledge to the test in two successive online rounds.
High Stakes
High Stakes is an annual, simulation event involving the participants' skill for Hedging and Risk Management, which is conducted in tandem with Kashipur Premier League (KPL), is a virtual currency bidding game where participants put their stakes on different possible outcomes of all the KPL matches. People will be able to measure their analytical capability and will provide an opportunity for them to reflect on risk analysis and hedging.
Open Outcry
Open Outcry is an “on-the-floor”, Over The Counter stock exchange trading simulation event where the participants have to judge the future of their holdings based on their intuition and the information provided to them. The participants have to compare past stock prices and future predicted prices, in order to decide to make a call for a trade.
Breaking Bond
Breaking Bond is an exciting offline competition that combines fast thinking and collaboration in a fun-filled challenge. The game begins with a quiz round of general knowledge, picture, and riddle-based questions and just the top 8 teams move forward. The second stage consists of a tricky escape room task, where teams need to answer four sets of puzzles, to reveal clues to the ultimate riddle. The winning team is the one that finishes all the challenges and escapes the room first.
Tie-Up with CFA Institute
TFC in collaboration with CFA Institute organizes various events like CFA Research Challenge, CFA Ethics Challenge, CFA ESG Challenge for both first- and second-year students on a pan-India level and an intra-college level. Also, CFA Ethics Workshop is organized to cover topics around the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, the ethical benchmark for investment professionals, which has proved to be highly beneficial for those who are looking for a career in Finance or planning to appear for the CFA Exams in the future.
The Simulation Challenge
TFC, in collaboration with StockGro, conducts a real-time event of trading stocks on a virtual platform over a period of time. The event is conducted for the purpose of giving an idea to the participants about trading with virtual money whilst competing with others to maximize the returns of their virtual portfolio. In two online rounds, candidates are able to put to the test their financial knowledge, trading skills, and investment understanding.
Finance Forum
The Finance Club organizes expert-led guest lectures as part of the Finance Forum, where industry leaders, CFOs, and finance professionals share their insights on market trends, investment strategies, and emerging financial technologies. These sessions provide students with valuable real-world knowledge, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices.
National Finance Olympiad
The Finance Club and Phoenix Global Finschool collaborate to present an opportunity to hone the finance acumen of the students. The students participating in the Olympiad and Live Training get to learn from the world's top trainers, CFA and FRM qualified industry mentors provide 1-1 training and make the students industry ready.
