Biography
Smarak Samarjeet has done MBA in Marketing and HR from Utkal University, Odisha. He has a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Pondicherry University. He completed his PhD in Mass Communication from Pondicherry University in 2016.
He has taught courses such as Communication Theory, Online Journalism, Principles in Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, and Development Communications at the Postgraduate level. He specializes in Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Public Relations for DigitalMedia, Content Writing, Technical Writing, and Public Service Advertising (PSA).
His research interests include Political Economy of Media, Rhetoric Studies, Semiotics Studies, Film Studies, Advertising, Feminist Media Studies, Ideological Analysis, and Sentiment Analysis.
He was one of the 100 global young leaders selected to represent India at the Women Deliver 3rd Global Conference at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2013 and the Women Deliver 5th Global Conference at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2019. He has been featured in The Hindu, The Orissa Post, and The Samaja for his work in community radio.
He has done freelance content writing for scholarship-positions.com, website run by Oxford University Graduates. He has also trained Indian Forest Officers in Communication Skills. He has conducted MDP programmes for ONGC Graduate Trainees on Soft Skills. He is part of the Design and Innovation Centre, IIM Kashipur and trains students in storytelling for design and innovation. He also conducts workshop on human centered design thinking and innovation.
Currently, he teaches Business communication and Corporate Communication for MBA programme and Executive MBA programme at IIM Kashipur.
He is trained in Public Service Advertising film making. He recently directed a documentary film which got premiered in Out On Film Atlanta’s LGBTQ Film Festival 2020, Atlanta, US; Dharamshala International Film Festival 2020, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, India; Mosaic South Asian Film Festival, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; Dialogues 14th Calcutta International LGBTQIA+ Film & Video Festival, Kolkata, India; 26th Kolkata International Film Festival, Kolkata, India.
