About Details

Econs - The Economics Club of IIM Kashipur was established to create a community of passionate individuals who are interested in economics and its applications in various fields. Our aim is to provide a platform for students to engage in events related to economics and its impact on society.

The club is open to all students who are interested in economics. We encourage members to participate in our events and activities, and contribute their unique perspectives. Throughout the year, we organize a variety of events such as Filmonomics, Game of Econs, Infographics, Apna Sapna Money Money, Budget Prediction, Arthashastra and Budget Analysis to provide members with opportunities to explore and learn about different aspects of economics, and to help them develop their critical thinking, problem-solving, and public speaking skills. The club also publishes monthly newsletter which includes technical jargons of economics, current affairs and some other related topics.

Through the activities, the club tries to provide  the opportunity to explore the student’s interests in economic domain and develop new skills while creating lasting memories.

Events

Events Conducted during the year

Game of Econs: An event testing the ability of the participating teams to apply the concepts of game theory in a practical situation.

Filmonomics: In this event, clips from movies including Hollywood movies, cartoon series such as Doraemon, Shinchan etc are shown to the students to make them identify the related economic concepts.

Infographics: In the event of infographics, participants are required to design an infographic poster in PNG/PDF format on provided topics and submit it through Unstop.

Last year, the topics included were-

  1. China's economic slowdown
  2. Labour Economics in the UK
  3. Evolution of electronic payments in India

Arthashastra: It is a policy making event under the auspices of Annual Fest Agnitraya which consisted of 3 rounds including a quiz and case submission rounds.

Budget Prediction: The budget prediction event is organized on the Unstop platform where the participants submit their prediction for the government budget for the upcoming financial year which is presented on the 1st of February every year at 11 AM by the finance minister. The predictions can be based on commitments made in the past by the current regime.

Budget Analysis: In this event, the participants have to list down all the changes to the budget that they believe may have been overlooked by the government but could make a big impact on the economy. The participants can pick up to 1-3 sectors for the analysis and have to propose at least 5 changes that they might think would be helpful for a better economy.
