Biography

Dr. Mayank Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Information Technology & Systems area at the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur. He holds a doctorate (Fellow Programme in Management) in Information Technology and Systems from the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow and a degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Calicut. Before joining academia, he gained industry experience with Tech Mahindra Pvt. Ltd. At IIM Kashipur, he has served in institutional leadership roles, including as Chairperson for Admissions and Student Affairs.

His research interests lie at the intersection of Information Systems, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and emerging Digital technologies. His research spans Online Communities, Big Data, Algorithmic Management, Deep Learning, Augmented Reality, Information Security, Business Value of IT, and Digital technologies. His work has been published in journals including Enterprise Information SystemsAIS Transactions on Human-Computer InteractionComputers & Security, and Annals of Tourism Research. He has been recognized as an Association for Information Systems Distinguished Member and has received the Matthew J. Manimala–SAJM Best Paper Award.

Dr. Mayank Sharma's teaching interests encompass Generative AI, Management Information Systems, Introduction to Business Analytics, Digital Transformation, Social Media & Web Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, and Network Theory & Machine Learning. His recent teaching and executive education engagements focus on AI, Machine Learning, including Prompt Engineering and Generative AI, as well as Business Analytics.

He has extensive experience in faculty development, executive education, and professional training. He has conducted sessions on Digital Technologies, Generative AI for teachers, school principals, faculty members, and industry professionals through programmes including MMTTP and ATAL. He also conducts Management Development Programmes on Digital Transformation, Generative AI, and AI & Business Analytics.

His professional engagements include mentoring a working group of the Institute of Actuaries of India and contributing to the development of its AI Governance Policy. He has also authored a book on Data Science and Machine Learning for their professional course. His work reflects a strong interest in translating research and emerging technologies into practical applications for education, management, governance, and organizational decision-making.
