A Consultative Workshop with the Advocates of Kashipur sub division of Udham Singh Nagar district has been organized on Feb 14th, 2016; by the Centre of excellence in Public Policy & Government, IIM Kashipur in connection with the ongoing Ministry of Law & Justice, Govt of India project: "Performance Indicators for Subordinate Courts and Suggestive Policy / Procedural Changes to Reduce Civil Case Pendency".
Principle Investigator Prof K M Baharul Islam in his inaugural address tells about the theme of the project and issues need to be addressed to provide and efficient judicial system equipped with modern technology. Keynote speaker Prof Nitin Singh has focused on various tools of management which will help in better administration of justice in Civil Courts such as Voice of Customers (VOC) which means that not only the Advocacy & Judiciary but also the Litigants must have a say in such policy framing. Senior Fellow Ajay Sharma has emphasised on the core issue/theme of the project and tells about the background of the project with the progress made till date. He encouraged the advocates to raise genuine problems and suggest practical solutions to resolve the issue of huge pendency of civil cases. Which is rising day by day in spite of all the efforts by the Law Ministry & Judiciary. Members from the Bar insisted for Judiciary in place of Executive in revenue cases as well.
Next Workshops in this series will be conducted at Aligarh & Ghaziabad of U.P. and Nainital&Almora of Uttarakhand in March, 2016. Total 8 workshops, 2 state seminars (one each in U.P& U.K) and 1 National Conference has been proposed under the project.
