E-Cell, IIM Kashipur successfully organized its first annual Pan India B-Plan competition, Uttishtha’16 on 17th January 2016. The event witnessed participation from 50+ teams from colleges all across India including the likes of IITs, IIMs, XLRI, JBIMS, among others. Our esteemed jury shortlisted 8 teams, for the final round. In the grand finale, IMT Ghaziabad and IIM Kashipur secured the first and second spots, respectively.
Mr Neeraj Gupta, CEO of FormulateIP, Cofounder Excubator and an avid Angel Investor was the guest of honor for the event. He was also one of the judges for the event. The other judges were Mr. Suman Lahiri, an IIM Calcutta alumnus and Regional Director, EBTC and Asst. Prof. Safal Batra, from IIM Kashipur. Our guest of honor Mr. Neeraj Gupta proposed to extend mentoring and funding to a couple of B-Plans in case they would be able to come up with a prototype in some stipulated time.
The event was conducted in 3 rounds. In the first round, the teams were required to submit the executive summary of their plans. Out of 50 teams, 25 were shortlisted for the second round. In the second round, all the 25 shortlisted teams submitted their detailed B Plans. The plans touched upon a variety of domains such as Solar energy distribution, Online Indian Jewellery Marketplace, Online Cycle marketplace, an innovative sewage treatment Plan, an app for college events, On-door vehicle servicing etc.
The third and final round was to pitch the B-Plans at IIM Kashipur. In this round 8 teams were selected. The three-hour battle saw some of the exciting plans; there were talks about operational efficiency, special emphasis on marketing, etc., etc. Team Autumn from IIM Kashipur wanted to eliminate middlemen and break the geographically confined jewelry market. Team Notifliers from IMT Ghaziabad presented a group notification social app to filter the relevant content for interested people. Team Ping Hut’s plan was to offer an online portal to filter on the basis of location, price and videos of the place, guided video tours, Team The Last Resort, a team from IMT Ghaziabad proposes to develop a bicycle culture in Delhi, Team Doorsteps from IIM Kashipur proposed an online portal for vehicle servicing, pick and drop to maximize value to customers. Team Reddington from IIT Roorkee pitched its plan to install solar panels on the rooftops of household and improve green power.
IIM Kashipur congratulate the winning teams from IMT Ghaziabad (The Last Resort) and IIM Kashipur (Autumn) for grabbing the first and second prize, respectively. We had received over 50 b-plans from all across the country, and so it was a cut throat competition to win.
Next year we look forward towards an even more vibrant, diverse and innovative Utthistha’17 with brilliant ideas, and of course some support from the sponsors.
